01

Record the precise place

A park, sidewalk, library, transit stop, or public building may contain spaces controlled by different organizations. Save the exact path, entrance, platform, activity, time, and photographs when safe.

02

Keep reports and witnesses

Record who received the report, witness details, weather and lighting observations, event communications, and treatment records. A broad place name alone will not show what condition or person was involved.

03

Ask about public-body procedures

Some claims involving a government entity require a special notice or claim presentation, and immunity may matter. Which rule applies depends on state law and who controlled the actual location.

04

Compare a firm’s investigation plan

Ask how it would identify the maintainer, request records, preserve footage, evaluate the relevant procedure, and explain its written fee terms.
